Kai Po Che - An effort worth watching

Kai Po Che - I was waiting for this one eagerly much more than and any Khan/Kapoor/Kumar release this year and honestly somewhere I am getting little tired of that clan and then this well written well directed movie comes like a fresh whiff of air and leaves us refreshed for sure at least left me refreshed for sure :) This movie as most of you know is based on Chetan Bhagat's very popular book 'Three Mistakes Of My Life' about three friends and how their friendship goes through its share of ups and down during the course of the Gujarat EarthQuake and Riots and a dash of romance thrown in :) All the actors playing the three pivotal characters are simply superb be it Sushant Singh or Raj Kumar Yadav or Amit Sadh their acting seemed effortless yet outstanding..Amrita Puri whom I thought was the best part in Sonam Kapoor's 2010 release 'Aisha' proves her mettle yet again yes she does have a significant role and she is a complete bundle of pleasure to watch hope she gets more opportunities in the future and we get to see more of this talented actress.. Every supporting actor did a real good job as well and the music by Amit Trivedi is quite pleasant as well. Very happy for Abhishek Kapoor and for Chetan Bhagat as well at least he got his due credit unlike 3 Idiots where the production ,Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan stole away his(Chetan Bhagat) credit that was like stealing and shamelessly going about it as well..anyways I sincerely hope 'Kai Po Che' does make good money as well apart from the critical acclaim ... Watch it because it's the kind of cinema that goes beyond the defined boundaries of Hindi Cinema. Watch it because movies like KAI PO CHE needs to be encouraged. A film that deserves an ovation! Recommended for sure :)

Murder 3 - Total Copy Paste Job :)

Murder 3 - If all it takes is pick a foreign language film and decide on some casting and thrown in some music (hindi movie you see so some song and dance sequence has to be there every movie is not Kahaani na ) then all of have a budding director in us trust me just got to get a financer thats it :) Having seen the original one which is a Spanish movie on Friday evening one thing I can tell one thing for sure Mr.Vishesh Bhatt has done a complete copy paste job without changing the dialogues or any of the sequence for that matter OMG was I in state of shock or what :)) I don't know but somehow I get a feeling Mr.Vishesh was sloshed one day and happen to see this Spanish which is not really known or so he thought and with rich producer dad getting money for the project was not a difficult task for sure and Voila we have murder 3 and I strongly feel that they should have named this movie 'Is Aina Ke Peeche Kya Hai' ;) But I had company of a good friend so no complaints :)

The Sapphires - Entertaining Musical

Based on a true story, THE SAPPHIRES is a triumphant celebration of love, friendship, family, optimism and most of all music which is feet tapping yet soulful. Must say this one is one gem of a movie which needs to be discovered by one and all. The director does not follow any beaten track but just let the sequences fall one after the other and thats what makes the movie an immensely likeable one. All the actresses I mean the main leads most of them Australians were totally cool and came up with superb performances. The film also showed the amount of Racism existed during those times and in every walk of life ... the color of the skin seemed like the deciding factor of any human's importance not that it does not happen in our times. The movie moved me made me sing and left a damn good feeling. So surely recommended and I repeat again do not miss this gem of a movie :)

Kon-Tiki - One Awesome Adventure Film(Language - Norwegian with English thrown in many times)

This adventure film had caught my attention when it was nominated at Oscars this year under the Best Foreign Film Category and actually turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a fantastic inspirational one at that. When I saw 'Life Of Pi' last year I was like wow this is what an adventure movie got to be like but then I watched this one yesterday I remained spellbound and found myself completely absorbed in the movie. One man's conviction daring to take a 8000 kilometer voyage in the sea with 6 other daring men crossing the pacific on a balsa-raft just to prove this happened in ancient times wow was I amazed with some jaw dropping stunts in the sea with the death Sharks this one surely makes an amazing viewing and is bound to leave you inspired... Recommended recommended recommended ..Don't miss this one for anything in the world.

She's The One - Fun Romantic Comedy

This one is one fun romantic comedy which I enjoyed immensely with a script quite fresh and most of my favorite people(Jenifer Aniston,Cameron Diaz,Edward Burns,Amanda Peet) pitching in decent performances this one surely makes a worth a watch. This 1996 release is bound to make you smile most of the time and leave you with a good feeling and with just 92 minutes being the duration of the movie this one makes you linger for more :) This one is surely a great DVD watch and specially for this so called Valentine week .Recommended :)

Celeste & Jesse Forever - Refreshing Romantic Comedy

This romantic comedy is good fun to watch and unpredictable and refreshing too to a large extent must say a nice little charming movie. I quite liked the ending its quite realistic and not predictable and all sugary and sweet for sure. Rashida Jones is superb as Celeste and liked Emma Roberts as well in this one. A great DVD watch for sure :)

Mama - A must watch for Horror movie fans

Mama - If you like horror movies you just cannot afford to miss this one it has the shocking and fearful moments and the atmosphere so eerie all in all a well made horror movie :) Try and catch it on a night show I am sure you will have loads of fun :) Happy getting scared :)

People Like Us - A Great Feel Good Drama

An awesome drama didn't think I would like it this much but the story, the performances the story the feel good factor. This one has all the ingredients of a good feel movie yes its about a dysfunctional family but nevertheless a fresh story the characters extremely well enacted by Chris Pine,Elizabeth Banks,Michele Pfeiffer and Olivia Wilde too. This one is a heartfelt drama and immensely likeable at that :) Recommended :)

Special Chabbis - A Great Heist Drama

Special Chabbis - Finally a great heist drama from Bollywood but how I wish there were no songs and no love track to it would have reduced the movie duration to two hours which is just apt for movie of this genre.Otherwise a fabulous film directed by Neeraj Pandey of 2008 release 'A Wednesday' fame. Must say the 1980s era 1987 to be precise of India is captured very well and the sets and the props completely justifies the same specially the marutis and the Contessas on the road and the attire too. Every actor in this movie has done a brilliant job sorry would be able to name the ones that I know of : Akshay Kumar - We all know he is actually a good actor despite of the ten awful movies he does he surely comes up one or two good movies as this where we get a glimpse of the good actor in him. Anupam Kher - Brilliant is the word he slips into any role like it was just made for him loved his performance Jimmy Shergil - He is another great actor who is sadly underutilized and does not get the opportunities he so well deserves and yes a great looker too..very fond of him and can't wait to see him in 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns' next month. Manoj Bajpai - Another super actor who has delivered a great job Fantastic performances by Deep Raj Rana,Vipin Sharma ,Tiku Talsania and Divya Dutta. The movie could have surely done without Kajal Agarwal's character it just slows down the pace of this fast paced movie. Overall a fantastic movie..recommended.

Janie Jones - Beautiful story of father and daughter

This movie stars Abigail Breslin and that was a good enough reason for me to get attracted to this one and the storyline of father and daughter relationship kind of made it better. This one is a beautiful story of a 13-year old girl- Janie Jones(Abigail Breslin)who is abandoned by her meth-addicted former-groupie mother, after she informs Ethan Brand, an alcoholic, on-the-road, fading rock star, that Janie is his daughter, and of course the fading rock star is not happy about it. The movie unfolds the how the father - daughter duo built their relationship based on music and faced all the hurdles with full gusto. A beautiful emotional journey pumped up with some great music and great performances.

Promised Land - Awesome one from the director of Good Will Hunting

Promised Land - An excellent movie focusing on environment with some great performances by both Matt Damon and John Krasinski. Written by Matt Damon and John Krasinski, this is a small-town American tale centered on an earnest protagonist who is forced to take a hard look in the mirror when his ideals are shattered and the tables are turned against him. The end shook me and took me by surprise completely... This should be one of those must watch movies in our list I quite liked it and recommend this one sure.

Vishwaroopam - Not to be missed

Vishwaroopam - Technically this is surely the best Indian movie I have ever seen as this can be easily compared to any Hollywood spy thriller I have seen in the recent past and surely better than many of them as well and wait there is a sequel awaiting too in the near future :) Kamal Hassan is simply brilliant deserves all the praise and adulation he has got for this movie both in terms of acting as well as direction. It was great to see Shekhar Kapur after a long time in a movie and must say it was very pleasant. The two baddies who stand out are Rahul Bose and Jaideep Ahlawat ..good actors are made of this material I guess they can make their presence felt in any role they take up. The girls both Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah are effective in their respective roles but nothing extraordinary surely not complaining Overall this is one great effort by the multi talented Kamal Hassan which should not go unnoticed for sure so for here's a a humble request to everyone to watch this movie on humanity and to destroy terrorism. Not sure why there was a hue and cry about this movie what was shown is reality whether we like it or not....Recommended.

Midnight's Children - Great piece of History

Though the book has been there with me for sometime I am yet to read it but before could do that the movie released and decided to see the movie first being a movie freak :) So I really can't compare to the book but surely this one leaves us thinking was Indira Gandhi obsessed with astrology like most of the Indian politicians are? It left me thinking that surely we never had a single good woman leader none of them really thought of any good for this country but their selfish interest of power and the corrupted Gandhi family is one of the worst of all shamelessly looting our country since independence maybe before that as well every bloody political party has done that. I remember watching Parzania in 2007 and losing all respect for a certain respectable minister - Mr.Narendra Modi , can never forgive him for the homicide he and his political party had created, the development of any state cannot be made over innocent people's lives to hell with the best developed state. Anyways no point of discussion as till we change our mindset all these nonsense will keep happening in this incredible India. Coming back to the movie I am sure the movie must have been very close to the book as Salman Rushdie himself was very closely involved in the production of the same. Terrific acting by everyone be it Satya Bhabha, Rajat Kapoor, Shahana Goswami ,Seema Biswas, Shriya, Siddharth, Soha Ali Khan, Shabana Azmi,Rahul Bose,Kulbhushan Kharbanda must say great job done by the casting director.. The story being powerful has made this one a powerful but yes it is a bit lengthy so if history has been your favorite subject I surely recommend this one....I liked it for sure...

Big Miracle - Indeed A Miracle

Big Miracle - Am I glad I came across this movie and decided to watch it somehow Alaska and subject of saving the gray whales increased my interest and then of course the actors - Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski just kind of compelled me to watch the movie further and boy was I pleasantly surprised you bet I was :) Based on the book 'Feeling The Whales'this one conveys a strong environmental message beautifully and this time the message is about saving the gray whales in Alaska, it took up an environmentalist to believe ,stand up and have immense faith for the noble cause and eventually she gets support from all corners of the globe. This movie is a result of mix of the book and true incident which saved the gray whales. Loved this one surely recommended :)

Trouble with the Curve - Good one

Though I am really not into sports but somehow the sport themed movies never fail to attract me towards them at least most of them and this one stars two of my favorite Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams so all the more reason not to have missed this one. Clint Eastwood is an aging baseball scout who is on his last scouting trip with his daughter (Amy Adams) and the trials and tribulations they face during this journey not to forget the baggage from their past which finally goes through clearance during this journey. The movie's theme reaffirms you are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream and that really makes this movie likeable and watchable. Clint Eastwood was fantastic as ever so was Amy Adams but must admit the surprise package was Justin Timberlake he was really good and the other actor who stands out was John Goodman.. So if feel good movies lift you up you can look up for this one the next time you place order for your DVDs :)

David - Great one by Bejoy Nambiar

David - This is story of Neil Nitin Mukesh {Set in 1975 – London}, Vinay Virmani {Set in 1999 – Mumbai} & Chiyaan Vikram {Set in 2010 – Goa}. All of them share one thing in common & that's their name –David. The 3 stories set in the different eras are completely different from the other and must say each of them has unique flavor which makes them special in their own way. Though there are three parallel stories but surely they don't fail to hold your attention. There are many brilliant moments in this movie across all the stories and makes this totally worth the watch My personal favorite was Chiyan Vikram's story set in Goa and the locales of Goa shot so well wanted me to pack the bags and rush to Goa for sure :) Neil Nitin Mukesh was a revelation he was just superb and his eyes said it all and must say he does complete justice. Akash Khurana as Ghani is simply brilliant sad these actors don't get enough opportunities in this industry Loved Tabu's free spirited performance oh why doesn't she come to movies often.. Monica Dogra is ok can't say great Isha Sharvani looks lovely and enacts her role quite well.. Rohini Hattagandy proves yet again she is a great actress.. Nasser is awesome and shines in his brief but important role Neil Bhoopalam does his role quite well another good actor Saurabh Shukla was fabulous and yes Lara Dutta was nice too good to see her after sometime.. And last but not the least Chiyan Vikram is just too good it was total fun watching him Oh and there is Bangalore artist Rubi Chakravarty too who does a great cameo Overall this movie makes surely a good watch yes it does not follow the usual routine of Hindi movie but creates a genre of its own beautifully... If you are looking for something different and nice to watch surely don't miss this one ..Recommended..

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - Not the classic fairy tale :)

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - If you are thinking this one is the fairytale that you read during your childhood then you are kinda wrong because yes there is the brother- sister duo of Hansel and Gretel who encountered the witch in the forest in the candy house but wait here lies the twist not only they kill the witch of the candy house but grow upto becoming serious witch hunters. And the witch fighting is bloody in the true sense of the meaning of this word and must say both Jeremy Runner and Gemma Atterton are great as Hansel and Gretel and must mention Famke Janssen as the main witch is pretty good .. Also there are good and bad witches and good witches are the white ones so there is discrimination there :) The world and its obsession with the color white :) So if you don't mind blood and gore you can look forward to an action packed thriller which is magical and I when I say magical I meant the darker side of it :) Nope this is not for kids viewing.
