Confessions Of A Shopaholic

While watching this movie I thought I was watching myself for a while when i saw Rebecca Bloomwood(Isla Fisher) shopping all the luxuries of life using her set of credit cards , thankfully I am nowhere close to her and have no intentions to be ever..but saying that I won't deny I love to shop for every reason and season :-)
Confessions Of A Shopaholic is based on the books "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" by Sophie Kinsella. This movie revolves around the life of Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) who is a 25 year old who lives with her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) in Suze's flat (paying her friend rent that is well below market value), in a trendy part of town. Rebecca is struggling with her obsession towards shopping and the sudden collapse of her income source makes her unintentionally land a job writing for a financial magazine after a drunken letter-mailing mix-up. Ironically writing about the very consumer caution of which she herself has not abided, Rebecca's innovative comparisons and unconventional metaphors for economics grants her critical acclaim, public success, and the admiration of her supportive boss Luke. But as she draws closer to her ultimate goal of writing for renowned fashion magazine Alette, she questions her true ambitions and must determine if overcoming her "shopaholic" condition will bring her real happiness. The portrayal of personal bill collector by her as her ex boyfreind stalking her is hilarious.
I loved the spirit of Rebecca in this movie and coming up with a resolution to solve her problem was very inspiring and fun to watch. A real good fun and sincere movie.

The Mirror Has Two Faces

This is a real nice movie about how a relationship between two Columbia professors with similar personal lives . Jeff Bridges searching for an ideal marriage and Barbara Streisand plays a woman no one finds attractive. More out of mutual admiration and respect than love, Greg(Jeff Bridges) and Rose(Barbra Streisand) marry. Greg assumes that Rose understands that he is not interested in a sexual relationship. He's mistaken, and their marriage is nearly destroyed when Rose tries to consummate their relationship. While Gregory is out of the country on a lecture tour, Rose diets and exercises to transform herself into a sexy siren in her final attempt to save her marriage.
A beautiful movie emphasizing on the thought that marriage is not all about sex its about mutual trust, enjoying life together both in its high and low tide which is fast vanishing these days.

Aloo Chaat - Not Too Spicy Just Right

Powered by: Chakpak.com Aloo Chaat

Aloo Chaat the title of the movie definitely generates a lot of interest letting us think what the whole movie would be all about well as the title suggests it definitely is an interesting watch and this is definitely Robby Grewal's best work so far compared to his earlier movies Samay or Mera Pehla Pehla Pyar.
To start with the story of the movie is sweet and simple with just little spices to make it interesting watch the story of the movie actually is apt as if anyone has tasted the speciality of Delhi which is Aloo Chaat which is neither too spicy nor bland but just right enough to leave a good lingering taste in the mouth.
Coming to performances it was really good to see Aftab in this role,Aamna too was quite good for her debut performance,Manoj Pahwa as the helpful uncle was great too.
All in all one could watch it and enjoy this sweet and simple story which does remind us of the great works of Hrishikesh Mukherjee in its own way.

Secret Window - Johnny Depp

I am sure a lot of you must have seen this one and if not catch it.
I have been wanting to watch this movie since the day of its release which is way back in March 2004 but for some reason it just did not happen but i am glad i saw this movie today its never too late i guess..
Johny Depp's has given a knockout performance in this one well he is fabulous in every movie of his be it Finding NeverLand or Charlie And Chocolate Factory or Edward Scissorhands, his performance always gives an extra edge to the movie and his choice of movies are awesome too something to look forward for sure...
This movie is an engrossing thriller, based on the novel-Secret Window, Secret Garden by Stephen King. This film is incredibly clever and complicated, and one needs to focus really well to fully comprehend all of the twists and turns that are interwoven throughout. It is a very deep psychological thriller which will leave you with a lot to think about.
A truly fantastic film, which will leave you jaw dropped by the time you reach the end.

Heaven On Earth

Deepa Mehta's Heaven On Earth is a movie which runs mainly on Preity Zinta's shoulders and she has done a commendable job in this movie a role very different and challenging from her earlier movies.
But the story is bizarre why is the director promoting superstition when our country already has plates full and more of it.The whole thing about snake taking the form of Preity Zinta's husband is weird and horrible ,she should have shunned such horrible husband and family the first time her husband hit her what was she waiting for to have an affair with the snake?????????
I was quite shocked that a fine director like Deepa Mehta who has given us thought provoking movies like Water,Fire,Earth could come up with this kind of trashy movie which promotes superstition
Thank God towards the end of the movie at least Deepa Mehta showed Preity Zinta leaving her 3rd class husband and his horrible family though after getting more than enough beatings from her husband.
All in all a horrible movie highly avoidable

Rabit Proof Fence

I am glad i saw this movie today a little late though which is 7 years after its release.. but its never too late to catch up on hidden gems such as these..

Rabbit-Proof Fence is based on the book, "Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence" by Doris Pilkington Garimara who happens to be the daughter of Molly Kelley one of the main characters of this powerful movie, the film tells the story of three Aboriginal girls, 14-year old Molly Kelley, her 8-year old sister Daisy, and their 10-year old cousin Gracie who are abducted by police in 1931 from their families at Jigalong, an Aboriginal settlement on the edge of the Little Sandy Desert in northwest Australia, the three girls are sent to the Moore River Native Settlement near Perth. Here the children must adapt to the wretched conditions. Herded into mass dormitories, they are not allowed to speak their native language, are subject to strict discipline, and, if they break the rules, are put into solitary confinement for 14 days. The movie focuses on their escape from confinement in a government camp for half-castes and their return home across the vast and lonely Australian Outback. This is a beautiful story of enormous courage, told with honest emotion.

Followed by the Aborigine tracker, Moodoo (mindblowing performance from David Gulpilil), the girls make their escape using a "rabbit-proof fence" as a navigation tool, they walk 1500 miles across the parched Outback to return to Jigalong. The rabbit-proof fence was a strip of barbed-wire netting that cut across half of the continent and was designed to protect farmer's crops by keeping the rabbits away. The girls walked for months on end often without food or drink, not always sure of the direction they are going, using all their ingenuity and intelligence along the way just to survive. The stunning Australian landscape is magnificently photographed and a haunting score natural sounds of birds, animals, wind and rain into music that adds a mystical feeling to the journey.

The performances by amateur actors Evelyn Sampi, Tianna Sansbury, and Laura Monaghan (who had never seen a film before let alone acted in one) are authentic and heartrendingly affecting. Kenneth Branagh gives a strong but restrained performance as Mr. Neville, the minister in charge of half-castes.

Rabbit-Proof Fence is an honest film that emphasises on the courage and natural wisdom of the girls and teaches us to go on in life with courage, determination and grit in order to achieve one's goal.. yes the path is not easy for sure....

Gulaal - Heavy Dose Of Depression

Gulaal-
Powered by: Chakpak.com Gulaal
- One of the most terribly depressive movies I have seen in the recent times yes life is full of ups and downs but movies which are suppossed to be a getaway from the usual humdrum of life well Gulaal is definitely not the answer to that.
The movie is extremely depressive from the word go i remember watching Eastern Promises which I had found gory, depressive and too violent but even there the message of the movie conveyed was positive like a ray of light at the end of the dark tunnel.
But in Gulaal the dark tunnel(story about politics) is scary, neverending, depressive to the extent of being really morbid and sad..
Having said that acting from every actor is top notch and makes this sad saga worth a watch I guess..
There is no doubt this is Anurag Kashyap's well made movie but wish it was little bit positive at least..
One can watch it for the fantastic acting by Kay Kay Menon(he is fabulous),Raj Singh Chaudhary(someone to lookout for surely),Mahi Gill(liked her in Dev D too),Ayesha Mohan,Aditya Srivastav,Deepak Dobriyal(he seems to be getting better and better with every movie),Piyush Mishra,Abhimanyu Singh and Jyoti Dogra(good to see her back after Hyderabad Blues - 2).

How To Lose Friends And Alienate People- Sad,Funny And Definitely True...

As different as the title of the movie sounds the movie is true to the core about the professional hazards one faces thought the the story here is based on media but the factors that are shown are applicable to all the industries and I am sure all of us can relate to it in one way or the other..
Many a times in our professional lives we do not get the right credit for the effort that we put on as probably did not lick our boss's arse as some others did though the effort or the job they have done is hundred percent trashy and does not have any significant result.
One global experience we all must have had for sure and that is doing something which we do not like at work but we do it as it helps in paying our bills, loans etc...
And my friends if we dare to take the path less traveled surely our CV would have frequent job changes and the much deserved promotions really don't come in time ;-)
Well well coming to back to the movie the performance by Simon Pegg ,Kirsten Dunst(she is fast becoming one my favorite in the league of Anne Hathway,Scarlett Johanson) and Gillian Anderson are fantastic all in all a really interesting storyline and the top notch performances by the actors definitely makes this one worth a watch.

Chak De India - Indian Women's Cricket Team

Today's historic win of the Indian Women's Cricket team against evergreen rival Austrailia reminded me of my all time favorite movie Chak De India in every way the whole episode of expecting the unexpected happened today like in Chak De India, this was the true case of reel life to real life indeed :-)
The similarites were more than one for sure, one the final match was between India and Austrailia which was the case in Chak De India too and the country the final match took place was Austrailia so was the case today as well and most importantly the undying team spirit which were the most important factor for the historic win in both reel and real life.
Am I glad that the women team won today despite of the fact they are understated they really showed Indian Women are equally great at playing cricket and its just not something which should be restricted to overhyped men in blue...

Little Zizou - Its all about love, faith and hope which keeps our life going :-)

I am glad i saw this movie- saturday afternoon couldn't have been better for sure :-)
Little Zizou is a beautiful movie about three major ingredients of our life and that is love, faith and hope which keeps us going in both good and bad times of our life,it also gives us an insight to the Parsi way of life which was a pleasure to watch indeed and the lovely Parsi Colony which is beautifully shot.
Coming to acting right from Boman Irani to Imad Shah to Zenobia Shroff to every actor in the movie has done a wonderful of portraying the characters real to life very impressive indeed.
This is indeed a must watch and by far one of the best releases of 2009,Don't miss it.

My Favourite Women Oriented Movies(Eng/Hindi)

Today being women's day i just had to list down my favorite women oriented movies-(when i say women oriented they are not to be watched by women alone but enjoyed by men too as they will miss on really good movies if they skip watching these movies) not that this thought didn't cross my mind earlier...well here they are :-)

1) Connie And Carla (Eng)- This movie less hyped is a real surprise packet and absolutely fun to watch and the female bonding and friendship is a real treat to watch. Both Toni Collete and Nia Vardalos(My Fat Greek Wedding) are an absolute pleasure to watch and they are sizzling hot in this one..

2) Beaches(Eng) - This is another beautiful movie of friendship between two women right from their preteen years till the twilight of their lives, coming from two different walks of life and going through their share of ups and downs of life together..performances both by Bette Middler and Barbara Harshey are first rate and thats what gives this movie an edge above others.Overall an entertaining film for sure.

3)Dor(Hindi) - This movie depicts beautifully how two women becomes great friends despite facing the biggest crisis of their lives. Three actors performances in this movie are noteworthy they are by Gul Panag,Ayesha Takia and Shreyas Talpade and the beauty of both hills of Himachal Pradesh and deserts of Rajasthan are beautifully captured in this movie. In this movie too emphasis lies on women bonding.

4)Mama Mia(Eng) - Wow what a fun filled movie the songs of ABBA beautifully utilised, I still remember both me and my friend had our feet tapping everytime the songs came up in the screen."Waterloo," "SOS," "Fernando," Dancing Queen," "The Winner Takes it All," and 'Mama Mia" the title of the movie would ever go out of the circuit. A little brief about Mama Mia -ABBA's music became the basis for a hit stage musical entitled "Mamma Mia!" in which a simple narrative was deftly woven around many of the quartet's songs. On stage, "Mamma Mia!" succeeded primarily because it was able to keep its wafer-thin storyline modest in scale and life-sized in scope. The movie too is s fun, infectious and thoroughly enjoyable, The performances by Meryl Streep, Pierce Bosnan and Amanda Seyfried are awesome. The scenes between Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried as the mother and daughter are both very moving and poignant in all the scenes in which they appear together. The whole movie is about the quest of finding who the real father of the bride is and relationship of mother and daughter going through its share of ups and downs and how the women friends of the mother in question came as ample support.A Definite Must Watch.

5)Mona Lisa Smile(Eng) -Mona Lisa Smile is a beautiful film. The whole setting of the liberal arts college, the 50s conservative setup in which the college dwells so firmly in, and the magical aura of a bygone era captivates you right form the start of the film. Top that with some beautiful photography, a nice gripping story and some convincing performances and you've got a great film. The focus of the film is primarily on the somewhat radical character of Dr Watson (played by Julia Roberts)and how she deals with the conservative environs of Wellesley College. She is able to build a great rapport with her students.

6)Astitva(Hindi) - This movie gives us the message that being a modern, educated woman doesn't necessarily have to be a career woman.Astitva chose to take the more direct stand of approaching the women movement. The movie emphasies on women who are capable of being independent, but are more interested in family and home.Tabu's almost perfect performance led her to winning National award as well as filmfare award and she proved her mettle again after her noteworthy performance at Maachis.

7) Filhaal(Hindi) - This movie was Gulzar's daughter Meghna Gulzar's directorial debut and was a fantastic effort. This movie deals with a rather serious topic of surrogate motherhood and gives us a gem of a movie that is very real-life.Both Sushmita and Tabu gives one of the most convincing performances of their individual careers. Sanjay Suri's performance too was noteworthy. The soothing songs of the movie were very well placed.

8)Bend It Like Beckham(English) - This movie about the heroine aspiring to become a successful football player despite of her orthodox family is really a fun film to watch out for.
I loved Parminder Nagra's performance in this movie and also got to see the glimpses of Kiera Knightley who went on to become an accomplished actress of today.

9)In Her Shoes (English) - This delightful movie based on the novel of the same name by Jennifer Weiner is quite enjoyable . In Her Shoes has well developed characters. Toni Collette is excellent as usual, as well as Cameron Diaz. . The relationship presented the two sisters, highlighting both their conflict and their connection to one another. Generally, it has a nice balance between dead-seriousness and light drama.

10)Dreamgirls (English) - The list would have been incomplete without the mention of this beautiful movie of three women friends and their respective carees as the budding singers. The ups and downs that they face in which they drift initially and get back together and friendship which has had the test of time and emerged as triumphs..

Well the list can go on but these ten are mindblowing i am talking about my opinion of course.. :-)

Rimi's Top Ten Movies Of Bollywood of 2008 :-)

Well when i have penned down my top ten of hollywood how would our own bollywood be far away:-) I had a tough time penning my bollywood top ten as much as I did during writing the top ten hollywood ...Here it comes:

1) Jodha Akbar - I wasn't really looking forward to this one initially but once the movie rolled it had me spellbound with the depth in the story and awesome cinematography. Really appreciate the detailed research that was done to put up this great work of cinema together.Hrithik and Aishwarya sizzled together as much as they did in Dhoom 2 , their chemistry together in the screen really is something to watch.Ashutosh Gowariker's direction and thorough research made this movie a masterpiece and Noone could have portrayed a better Akbar than Hrithik full marks to him for that.

2)Halla Bol - This movie brings back the glory of street plays and shows us what a strong mode of communication it could be to make our society aware of the ongoing unjust acts going on in our society and inspires us to stand up against them as the saying 'United We Stand' and it holds true to the core and we have witnessed the same in the recent past when Jesica Lal's murderer got punished. This movie is definitely very inspiring in terms of standing up agains the unjust acts.
Coming to the acting Ajay Devgan has proved his mettle and Vidya Balan too she truly is a good actress and her sincerity shows in the movie througout and Pankaj Kapur too has given a fantastic performance.Raj Kumar Santoshi the director is at his element while handling a script that demands its pound of action and strong dialogues and with this movie he gets those occasional moments and on their basis the movie is worth a watch.

3) Race - Race really lives upto its name its truly racy and has the power to keep the audience in the edges with its share of twists and turns. Both the director and music director of this movie are heavily inspired by international movies and compositions and it is but obvious in their work but the credit of putting a reasonably timepass movie and hummable and foot tapping music can not be taken away from them so this can be an interesting DVD watch for sure.

4) Shaurya - A real good hindi movie version of A Few Good Men the sensitive subject of Kashmir for once was really well handled keeping in mind the sensibilities attached to this beautiful state kudos to the director Samar Khan for the same. The performances by Rahul Bose,Javed Jaffrey,Kay Kay Menon and Deepak Dobriyal were mindblowing the others too have played their respective roles pretty well.Shaurya starts off slowly but the story really grows into you along with the great performances.

5) U,Me Aur Hum - Ajay Devgan's directorial debut was something to look forward for one important factor and that was to watch the livewire Kajol. Kajol was great in the movie as she is in all her movies her sheer presence makes this otherwise ok movie a good one. This movie for one is surely inspired by my alltime favourite romantic movie 'The Notebook' and this movie is surely a must watch for all you Kajol fans outhere :-)

6) Bhoothnath - No the movie is not scary as the title suggests infact on the contrary it is a loving, emotional family movie Mr.Amitabh Bachchan as the friendly ghost is great but they guy who stole away the show is the child actor Aman Siddique, his chemistry with Amitabh Bacchan really works and this is what makes this movie work not too forget the good performances by Juhi and my favourite SRK - The King Khan :-)

7) Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - Writer Abbas Tyrewala's directorial debut became the surprise superhit of the year and made Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan the overnight sensation and gave Genelia Dsouza the fresh lease of life in the hindi film industry and Smita Patil's talented son Pratiek was the surprise package of this lighthearted movie.Music Maestro A R Rahman's music too was a key element of this movie and everyone still cant stop dancing at Pappu Can't Dance Saala or humming Kabhi Kabhi Aditi ;-) This movie did bring back the memories of good old carefree college days for sure..

8)Rock On - Rock On true to its title totally rocked the nation and took everyone by surprise.
It gave us the beautiful message of not giving up on our dreams and surely not putting any age limit to fulfil our dreams. We have one life and we should make the most of it and never let ego stop to get back to your good old friends. And the music was just awesome. Farhan Akhtar truly is master of all trades and jack of all too and not to forget the memorable performances given by Arjun Rampal,Purab Kohli ,Luke Kenny,Shahana Goswami,Prachi Desai or Koel Puri.

9) Fashion - Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion gave an insight about the fashion indusrty and must say he has handle the subject very well and bought out the best performances from Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut all the other actors played their role pretty well too and the surprise package of this movie was Mughdha Godse wow what a debut by the supermodel definitely clapworthy..

10) Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - Well this has to be in my top ten yes for SRK and the story is good too so is SRK's performance and new girl Anushka too does a splendid job for a newcomer.Yes this movie came with less hype except for being a SRK starrer but definitely took everyone by surprise with the simple love story told so beautifully..

Rimi's Top Ten Hollywood Movies for 2008 :-)

The Top Ten Hollywood Movies for 2008 were the following these are personal favorites and would not mind watching them over and over again :-) :

1) Mad Money - The deadly trio of Diane Keaton,Queen Latifah and Katie Homes made this one a real fun to watch.Women power rocked in this delightful comedy and the well planned scheme to steal damaged dollar bills slated for destruction by these three characters was great fun to watch.
All in all A nice and enjoyable film worth seeing

2)Enchanted - Though the theatrical release of this movie was during the end of November 2007 but i got the opportunity to see this magical movie during the beginning of 2008 as thats when it released in the theaters across India and the movie being Magical I definitely wanted to see it in the theater and enjoy its sheer magic to the core in the core .This one surely took me away to the world of fairytales which I have been enjoying immensely since my childhood and reinforced the strong belief that good always wins over the bad :-).The chemistry of Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey was sheer magic. If Amy Adams is really cute then girlies Patrick Dempsey is a real hot dish :-). These kind of happyly ever after movies have always appealed me and I strongly recommend this one for everyone to watch.. for me its a sureshot collector's item :-)

3)P.S. I Love You - Romantic movie will always be in my favorites and P.S.I Love You based on Cecelia Ahern's much acclaimed novel of the same name is definitely a treat to watch for all the fans of romantic movies. It was great to see Hillary Swank in different kind of role as i have always been watching her doing good but heavy roles (Million Dollar Baby,Freedom Writers,Boys Don't Cry etc.)Kathy Bates as Hillary's mother in the movie did a good job too.
Both Gerard Butler(read Sexy) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were impressive too. This is a beautiful story of a woman's journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life.Surely worth a watch.

4) December Boys - It was good to see Daniel Radcliffe in role which let him act as he is minus the Harry Potter image built on him.. probably this was his opportunity to break away from the Harry Potter mould not that we don't love him as the Harry Potter. This film is based on Michael Noonan's novel of the same name which tells us the story about four orphans who leave their orphanage for a holiday by the sea in a beach resort, these four boys are known as December Boys because they were all born in the same month(December). These four boys are best friends and had given up hope of ever being adopted, but during their holiday at the beach resort when they figure out that a seaside couple are looking to adopt one of the orphans, friendships are tested and new alliances made as the four boys compete with each other for the chance to gain a real family and this becomes a self discovery journey about their own selves. Its definitley a good movie which is worth watching

5) The Bucket List - Wow this movie definitely taught me something and that is to celebrate each day of our life as it comes every day is a special day with its ups and downs though it gets a bit difficult to follow this religiously but this thought process does really help:-) .Coming back to The Bucket List apart from the fantastic performances by seasoned actors like Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman the storyline of the movie is something to live with and rejoice life with and tells us not to leave anything for that special day as everyday is special:-).I strongly recommend this one for eveyone who is yet to watch this one..

6)The Kite Runner - Loved this movie as much I loved the book by Khaled Hosseini..this magnificent movie portrays the true meaning of friendship, love, sacrifice and atonement.
The two statements made in the movie/book are really moving "there is a way to be good again" and "For you, a thousand times over" these two statements conveys this beautiful story to the hilt. Another movie I would strongly recommend due to the sheer powerful message and storyline.

7)The Dark Knight - Have been watching all the batman series right from my school days so surely couldn't have missed on this one and fortunately this movie really does live upto to all its hype. No Joker has ever rocked the screen the way Heath Ledger did it in this one its really unfortunate that we wont see of him anymore...The Joker in this movie definitely outshadowed Batman for sure :-) Watch this one for the Joker..

8) The Chronicles Of Narnia:Prince Caspian - Based on the novel by CS Lewis this movie was a visual treat to watch. This is a story of deliverance and restoration with some intriguing aspects of Narnian history, culture, and mythology. This will defintely come under the category of best fantasy films like the Harry Potter Series the Chronicles of Narnia series too has its share of fan following me for sure to start with :-) and i am definitley waiting for the next one to release which is The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader in 2010

9) Sex and The City - Well to start with i had never seen the series but enjoyed the movie thoroughly and was actually hoping that it would never end as it was great fun and visually colourful to watch...

10) Tinker Bell - There had to be an animated movie in my list of top ten as I just love watching them and seldom miss any of the animated movies.Well well the fairytales have always fascinated me and this one from Tinker Bell is truly beautiful conveys the message of being happy as one is born and everyone is in this world is with a purpose as God has created each one of us with a special plan in mind which we don't realise in the beginning for sure :-) at least not me :-)

Well actually to list top ten is

Slumdog Millionaire - Life's All About Never Ever Giving Up :-)

Slumdog Millionaire a movie which has taken the world by the storm causing as much as displeasure to its contradicts is a movie about optimism in its true sense an attitude of never giving up in life which helps us immensely during the low phases of our lives.
It was a sheer joy watching this movie seeing life through Jamal's eyes the highs and lows of his life and the ultimate victory of his seemed like a celebration of life itself.
Jamal's search holds very true to most of our lives where we are constantly in search of our goals and with all the hardships we face we really don't give up yes we do go through our low phase when life hits rock bottom but our grit and determination leads us through ultimately to achieve what we really are looking for..As the saying goes ' When you want something with all your heart the whole universe conspires to achieve it' and I truly believe in it...
