Silver Linings Playbook - A Great Feel Good Movie

This movie had me laughing more often than I had actually thought I would laugh and some fantastic performances from all the actors-Robert De Niro,Jackie Weaver,Bradley Cooper,Jennifer Lawrence and yes Anupam Kher as well he surely had much more a significant role than a certain Mr.Kapoor had in any of the Hollywood movies and Anupam Kher surely is a great actor.. The story deals with bipolar disorder as the main lead is suffering from the same but in the quest the way he discovers is an absolute fun experience to watch out for the football game, the ballroom dance competition and finally everything falling in place around Christmas time leaves you with a very good feeling for sure. One message which beautifully comes across is that while we are badly looking out and wanting something we gradually would realize that's actually not required and there are better things awaiting us :) Must say David O. Russell is a director of great accomplishment all his earlier movies have been reasonably good and his last release 'The Fighter' too had many Oscar nominations and had bagged few too ... A feel good movie not to be missed out ..Recommended.

Django Unchained

Django Unchained - Wow everything in excess right from violence to witty dialogues and some soulful music playing on the background and full on style and voila you have a smashing movie in full Tarantino style and an immensely enjoyable at that somewhere I feel he is inspired a bit from the Indian Masala movies :) Jamie Foxx plays the title character of Django who is a free slave cum bounty hunter and must say he delivers a fine performance But the one performance that is bound to stay with you is that of Christoph Waltz he is such a charismatic actor won't be surprised if he bags Oscar for this one my bet is surely on him :) Leonardo Dicaprio as this lecherous Southerner with discoloured teeth and a scruffy beard yet again proves he is just best whatever role he chooses to do a versatile actor who is yet to get an Oscar and the wait is still on... Samuel L. Jackson does a great job as well in his brief and leaves his impact. Kerry Washington is good and her expressive eyes did all the work... Overall a movie of sorts which can become a case study just wish the length was a bit shorter though but the full on style kind of makes up for it. Tarantino you have made yet another a great film :)

Farewell My Queen - Costume Drama A Beautiful One

Happened to see this late night last night and left me wondering why this wasn't nominated under the category of costume designing and make up and cinematography at Oscar this year because surely this one is million ahead /better than Anna Kareinina in terms of everything be the story, the performances, the sets, the costumes and it gave a real feeling of that period which Anna Kareinina failed somewhere..Nevertheless if you like history and costume drama then you can surely keep this one in your list to watch..I quite liked it

Amour - Beautiful Poignant Tale

Amour - A beautiful story narrated poignantly depicting the relationship of an old couple towards the end of their journey.Their health problems the stress and emotional upheaval caused by the same is surely a treat to watch... cinema at its poignant best . Both the French actors Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva are excellent as Georges and Anne age is no boundary for talent and they are brilliant examples of the same. I have always enjoyed watching French movies and surely loved the experience of watching this one too... It no fun filled cinema but a fantastic performance oriented one so if you are in for a great cinema then you surely can't miss this one...

Zero Dark Thirty - Great Cinema

Zero Dark Thirty - This is one movie I was waiting to watch and must admit I really enjoyed watching this chronicle of a movie about the decade long hunt for the one and only Osama Bin Laden post September 2001 attacks and finally his death in the hands of Navy Seals during May 2011. Performance wise everyone is brilliant and perfect for their respective characters. Jessica Chastain as the CIA agent is excellent and so well deserves the nomination she has earned for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in Oscars this year ... This movie is also nominated under the best motion picture as well as for best editing and best sound editing categories but I am really sad that Kathryn Bigelow didn't make it under the category of Best Director she surely deserved a nomination for this one. This is excellent film with great acting writing and directing a must watch for all you good cinema lovers but if you are expecting a fast paced action movie then I am sorry as that won't match your expectation but if you are looking for a great piece of cinema then this is it for sure..

Les Misérables - A Musical

Les Misérables - The film adaptation of a legendary musical as this one requires humongous efforts to keep the music as well as the story flowing for those two hour forty minutes. The two main characters are presented in the opening seconds of a sweeping introductory sequence: the police inspector Javert (Russel Crowe) and the prisoner 24601 Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) in post-revolutionary France. To be honest this kind of cinema might not appeal to all the cinema goers given its pace and also being a musical.. I solely watched it because of all the Oscar Nominations it has earned for and for Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathway and having seen the movie must admit Anne Hathway is the most well deserved of all and sincerely hope she bags the award this time :)

Gangster Squad - Action Packed

Gangster Squad - Must say this one is heavily inspired by the 1987 Hollywood release'The Untouchables' but having said that I must also say its not a copy and does not fail to entertain and keep you glued on to your seats :) If you like action packed movies then this one is surely for you and will satisfy your action taste buds for sure though I am not really an action movie somehow enjoyed the action scenes of this one. Performance wise Sean Penn is good as the evil underworld don but the guy who really stands out is Josh Brolin he is simply great in this one. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone do make their presence felt and yes Emma Stone is the glamor factor of this movie :) Nick Nolte is good in a brief but important role. Needless to say the production design like in most of the Hollywood movie does transport you back to the 1950'.. So if you are in for some action then this one is surely recommended

Lincoln - A Must Watch

Now here's a movie when you watch you know exactly why this has earned so many nominations at the Oscars and will surely bag few of them ... The active struggle of Abraham Lincoln's in ordeal to forever ban slavery from the United States a struggle in which he had to fight inside his own cabinet as well is so so very well enacted by Daniel Day-Lewis won't be surprised if he bags the Oscar for best actor for this one .. And it would be rather unfair not to have mentioned the brilliant performances by Sally Field (she is nominated),David Strathairn,Joseph Gordon-Levitt(as Robert Lincoln ),Tommy Lee Jones ( he is nominated as well) and rest of the cast does complete justice as well must say very very impressive... When you are watching this movie you are completely transported in that era and that speaks volumes about detailing that has been done with utmost care.... So if you are true movie lover and a connoisseur of good cinema you just cannot afford to have missed this one and yes there is no action but a cinema which leaves you food for thought about the History of Lincoln and the freedom which he fought for .... Steven Spielberg - Sir take a bow you have left us spellbound again and we can't thank you enough for this one again...We are extremely fortunate that you decided to make movies in our lifetime and taught us the meaning of good cinema.. A Must Watch....

Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola - Over The Top

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola - Overall not bad because it surely has its fun moments but then close to 3hrs is a bit too much to tolerate this kind of over the top movie which actually got a bit irritating and can we please have less of songs the editor of this movie must say has done an extremely shoddy job .... The only advantage which keeps it kinda going is the fantastic performances. Pankaj Kapur was the best bet for sure closer on the heels was the supremely talented Shabana Azmi.. Shabana Azmi as the horrifying evil bitch of a politician is simply superb depicting the current set of awful women political leaders we have in this country very well and true to the core.. Imran Khan is really good but surely can't hide his cuteness in the Haryanvi getup :) Anushka Sharma as Bijlee is electrifying true to her name but a real Bijlee in the Indian state of Haryana would make it to the news headlines for something as scary as gang rape.. Arya Babbar is the worst and most irritating ..can't blame him his role was such Surely this is experimental but I would never consider this one as Vishal Bharadwaj's best given the track record he has of cult movies like Maqbool,Omkara... Music was ok no great shakes except for the title song... At the end all I felt was wish the movie was shorter minus some songs.. I would not really recommend this one but if you can afford to spend 3hrs watching some over the top stuff maybe then this one is for you... I would surely not watch this one again....

Hitchcock - A Very Interesting Watch ...Recommended

Hitchcock - A wonderful movie depicting the time when Alfred Hitchcock's 1960's stupendous hit and a cult 'Psycho' was made. The whole journey of making 'Psycho' surely makes this an extremely interesting watch right from its inception to the ideas to getting finance all in all a very well made movie which does not fail to lose your interest one bit through out the proceeding of this movie. One scene which totally stumped me was the making of the famous shower scene its something to watch out for ... Sir Anthony Hopkins was simply superb not sure if anyone carried the role of Mr.Alfred Hitchcock with so much elan and much comfort and quite real to whatever we have known about him. Helen Mirren was totally awesome won't be surprised with all the nominations thats on her way and well you never know she might just take away the trophy :) Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh is pleasant and does a good job. Must say rest of the cast is absolutely a treat to watch... Among Alfred Hitchcock's all other amazing movies noone could eclipse the incredible success of 'Psycho'.. Recommended for sure ....I am sure many awards are in store for this one...

The Impossible

The Impossible - An absolute fantastic tale of the undying human spirit.Base on true incident this movie depicts the struggle of a family of five caught in the mayhem of Tsunami which was undoubtedly one of the worst natural catastrophe of our times. The event was terrible but what kept people going was the undying human spirit the amazing sense of helping each other among us humans which we in India need to rediscover very badly we lack it big time these days. Loved the performances both by Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor ..Naomi Watts is nominated at Golden Globes for this must say she deserves it completely and yes it would be unfair not to have mentioned the awesome performances thrown in by the the three kids ...Overall an awesome movie and this movie takes the score of my movies for 2013 to number 14 :) Recommended for sure...
