Yes i am back to blogging after a long time and a fantastic movie like Aakrosh has compelled me to blog and not remain with few words in my facebook status update.
Now coming back to this powerful movie.
Shameful as it may sound, honour killings still exist in many parts of our country. The misconception is honour killings are all about the murder of a female/male family member by one or more family members, since the perpetrators / wrongdoers believe that the victim has brought dishonor / disrepute upon the family by having a relationship with a man of different religion or social status or marrying against the parents' wishes and this movie highlights that.
The whole thought repulses me and makes me feel extremely helpless that I can never ever be a standalone individual contributor and bring an end to this age old crap.There are parts of our country and I am referring to each and every state of this country where caste discrimination still exists in a big way and even among the so called Harvard/IIM graduates.Its easy to sit in a ac room and rattle off strategies and lecture how we should become patriotic and its a different ballgame all together to practically implement it ,some of them definitely do not have the courage but they are great orators and excellent in giving lectures to others.
I know of people who are so judgmental about which cars people own and think no lesser than some sort of celebrity about themselves but I am sure these are the same people who will hear about this incidents everyday and pretend they are superior and don't belong to that downtrodden world....nothing matters to them except for their some damn BMWs,Audis of the world sad but true...
But yes having said the above there are some people whose efforts are worth giving a standing ovation wish I could all support and contribute in some way to eradicate the shameful honor killings and many such shameful incidents.
Made with right intentions, AAKROSH enlightens you on the caste system which continues to be at its rigid best, with people from the rural areas I would say from cities as well refusing to change their attitude towards marriage.
This movie reminded me of Missisipi Burning which was based on the FBI investigation into the real-life murders of three civil rights workers in Mississippi in 1964.
Yes this movie is not your timepass crap Dabaang but a serious,brilliant cinema not to be missed.
Performance wise both Ajay Devgan and Akshay Khanna is absolutely marvelous so is Bipasha Basu in her simple yet brilliant role I liked the role played by Reema Sen,Paresh Rawal is menacing as the uncouth cop - you will just love to hate him..
I am glad Priyadarshan has come up with this brilliant movie after some of his forgettable laughathons.
The one and only drawback is the awful item number by Sameera Reddy.
