Struggling writer and gigolo Paul Varjak (George Peppard) moves into a Manhattan apartment and befriends neighbor Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn), a woman who lives off her looks and charm. As Paul learns more about Holly, the friendship between the two hustlers turns romantic. The movie is a lighter-than-air romantic comedy, set in a fantasy New York and rides on the irresistible charm of Audrey Hepburn at her peak. It’s a must watch!
2)Casablanca (1942)
"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine," says Rick (Humphrey Bogart) when his old flame Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) shows up in his nightclub. But World War II is raging, and Rick and Ilsa must make painful choices. The movie’s well-structured plot, flawless acting, and unforgettable dialogue makes this one of the best films of all time.
3)Notting Hill (1999)
Bookshop owner William Thacker's (Hugh Grant) world begins to turn upside down after the world's most famous actress, Anna Scott, (Julia Roberts) visits his store. A few minutes later, Will knocks into Anna on the street and spills his orange juice over her. He offers her his place to change, and hence starts a tense courtship between an everyday man and the woman every man dreams of. Screenwriter Richard Curtis has crafted a traditional romantic comedy that is surprisingly frank in its depiction of the lives of the rich and famous and the price they pay for success.
4)Pearl Harbor (2001)
Pearl Harbor is a classic tail of romance set during a war that complicates everything. When childhood friends Rafe (Ben Affleck) and Danny (Josh Hartnett) become Navy pilots and meet Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale) a Navy nurse. Rafe falls head over heels and next thing you know Evelyn and Rafe are hooking up. Then Rafe volunteers to go fight in Britan and Evelyn and Danny get transferred to Pearl Harbor. And while Rafe is off fighting everything gets completely whack and next thing you know everybody is in the middle of an air raid we now know as "Pearl Harbor Pearl Harbor is an epic tale of love, loss, and patriotism. It is a heart-wrenching love story entwined around the war struck times of World War 2.
5)You have Got Mail (1998)
Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) owns a small children's book store, but is coming under competition from Joe Fox's (Tom Hanks) giant Fox Books, a mega store with a cafe and discounted books. The two become rivals, without realising that the romance they are conducting anonymously on the internet is with each other. The film’s mix of romance and comedy is seductive in its own right, making you want to watch it forever!
6)Pretty Woman (1990)
Edward is a rich and sophisticated businessman. Vivian is a Los Angeles prostitute struggling with her lifestyle and has a hard time paying the rent. On a business trip to Los Angeles, Edward hires Vivian to be his girlfriend for a week while he visits the local social circles. Love and complications complicate their arrangement and have the pair wondering if their story could a happy ending. Pretty Woman is one of Hollywood's best and brightest motion picture love stories. The movie gives out a message that is solid, timeless and memorable.
7)Sleepless In Seattle(1993)
The movies are full of alternate universes and maybes that make them a great escape. Sleepless In Seattle is a great romantic comedy. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan star in a movie where they are hardly onscreen together and yet we feel both of their characters infatuation. It's an amazing job that director Nora Ephron does in making us care about the relationship between these two characters when their not hardly together onscreen. The movie also has great performances, from the leads and from supporting players Rosie O'Donnell and Rob Reiner, as well as a very goofy but sweet turn from Bill Pullman. This movie will make you feel really good.
8)The Notebook(2004)
The Notebook is one of my all-time favourite movies. Its a constant, and classic love story that makes you feel as if you are there watching it.. as if you are one of the characters, which makes the impact of the story just that much more real. There really are no words to describe how this movie makes you feel, but one thing is for sure... It will make you feel. After watching it, i've often just.. sat where i am and just thought about it. It's just one of those movies that you will think about 30 years after watching it, and still get that same feeling in your heart.. and you'll know that it touched you in one way or another. If you haven't seen it, you really are missing out... Its a classic!
9)Serendipity(2001)
The first time I've seen this movie, I knew I'd add it to my "classics", and here it is. Kate Beckinsale shows her talent -finally- within the movie by blending right into the act of John Cusack. As the movie starts, the movie's philosophy starts to reveals itself . The fact that love will find a way through it all is buzzing all around the movie and makes you feel warmer even though it's winter and snowing. The ice skating section and the ending section on the same "floor" are wondrous moments which any people would like to live - which makes the movie closer to the audience. The thought of someone "right around the corner" waiting for you is all around the movie and makes you feel like go out and find "them". A really cute story with a good sense of humor. Deserves my 9! I just LOVE watching it!
10)P.S.I Love You(2007)
P.S.I Love You based on Cecelia Ahern's much acclaimed novel of the same name is definitely a treat to watch for all the fans of romantic movies. It was great to see Hillary Swank in different kind of role as i have always been watching her doing good but heavy roles (Million Dollar Baby,Freedom Writers,Boys Don't Cry etc.)Kathy Bates as Hillary's mother in the movie did a good job too. Both Gerard Butler(read Sexy) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were impressive too. This is a beautiful story of a woman's journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life.Surely worth a watch.
Good choices. I haven't seen some of them so probably will grab them in some time.
