Matilda

Matilda is a wonderful fantasy movie giving the message of hope in its own nice magical way..simple yet brilliant.

The dialog is brilliant. The humor is both bold, and subtle. The characters are archetypal.

Matilda perfectly captures what it is like to be an intelligent person, trapped in the body of a child, and surrounded by idiots who control far too much of your life.

The notion that bad people (even adults) deserve to be punished for their evil ways (even by children) is truly subversive. Any child who suffered through the countless typical abuses of unthinking, uncaring, and ignorant parents will truly love this movie.

This movie also emphasizes on the fact that sometimes there's an extended which comes closer to you when your own family seems distant and unknown.

The story in brief - An unappreciated & neglected young girl (Mara Wilson) goes to school where hardships force her to discover extraordinary powers. With an extreme intelligence & a love of reading, she enters Crunchem Hall better educated than even the teachers. At the school she meets Miss Honey (Embeth Davidtz), a kind young teacher who encourages Matilda's interests & who tries to protect the children from Ms. Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the cruel & sadistic principal. When Matilda discovers she has telekinetic powers, she develops them & uses them to exact revenge on Trunchbull & free the school from the tyranny of her rule (& her riding crop). Danny DeVito & Rhea Perlman play Matilda's parents.

Despite the difficulties Matilda faces she comes out as a true winner, like all good fantasies this movie has a wonderfully happy ending.

I loved every bit of this movie though a bit late which is after more than a decade of its release..but movies like Matilda can never ever go out of fashion they are evergreen to say so..

  1. I just read Roald Dahl's Matilda last week... quite a change from children's books that were normally published 20-25 years ago. path breaking!
