Wow it was absolutely great to see the audi of Inox packed for this movie.
A real nice movie on the post global scene post 9/11,the movie has a lovely humane touch to it.
This movie reflects the mood that's prevalent across the globe, post 9/11. The world is divided today. No two opinions on that!
This movie is special and real different genre of movie from Yashraj Studios.
And it was a real good relief from the bad spate of hindi movie releases so far this year.
This movie is a tale of friendship, with terrorism as the wallpaper, NEW YORK hits you like a ton of bricks at several points in the narrative. In fact, there was a possibility that NEW YORK may turn out to be a dry experience, a documentary perhaps, but the drama is so well structured and so gripping that you get sucked into the world of Sam(John Abraham), Omar(Neil Nitin Mukesh) and Maya(Katrina Kaif) from its inception.
The story goes something like this - Omar [Neil Nitin Mukesh] has gone abroad for the first time in his life and soon enough, he begins to see and love America through the eyes of his American friends, Sam [John Abraham] and Maya [Katrina Kaif]. But an incident changes the world round them.
At this point enters Agent Roshan [Irrfan], an FBI agent, who sets the ball rolling for a series of tumultuous events that turn the lives of these friends upside down.
NEW YORK affects you like no other Hindi film has done so far [on 9/11]. In fact, there are portions that give you goose bumps, especially towards the second half of the film, when John recounts his past.
One just can't guess what and where the story is headed and what the culmination would be. The director and his team of writers establish the plot and characters beautifully, but the real action is reserved for the second half. The nightmarish experience that John undergoes is disturbing, but lifts the film several notches up.
Director Kabir Khan has come up with another winner after Kabul Express this time.Cinematography of this movie is really striking.The Director has injected songs only when required.
John, Katrina and Neil, all actors, deliver their career-best performance. If the first half belongs to Neil, John takes over the second hour completely. John is superb when he recalls the past. You can feel his pain, that effective is his performance. Also, note his expressions towards the end. This is a different John, for sure. Just one word for his performance -- fabulous!
Irrfan is, as always, first-rate.
On the whole, NEW YORK is amongst the finest films produced by Yash Raj.Highly recommended.

Angels and Demons

Wow what a roller coaster ride it was but executed brilliantly.

A real enjoyable fast paced thriller resembled a good Hindi masala flick quite a bit..and definitely much better than Da Vinci Code I meant the movie..

Both the novels Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons are equally good but when it comes to movie adaption Angels and Demons definitely has an edge over Da Vinci Code.

The story goes something like this Under the watchful eye of Father Silvano Bentivoglio and Dr. Vittoria Vetra (Ayelet Zurer), the CERN scientists start the Large Hadron Collider and manage to capture three vials of antimatter. Immediately afterward, someone kills Father Silvano, and uses his retina to break into the containment room to steal one vial of anti-matter.
In Rome, the Vatican mourns the passing of the Pope. The Vatican staff prepares for the Conclave of the College of Cardinals, which will select the next Pope. Until the Conclave selects a new Pope, the Camerlengo (Ewan McGregor) assumes day-to-day control of the Vatican. Reporters, nuns, priests and other faithful all crowd into St. Peter's Square, waiting for the white smoke from the Conclave. But the Illuminati, a 400-year old, underground secret society, kidnaps the four most likely candidates (preferratti) before the Conclave goes into seclusion. The Illuminati threatens to kill them at 8, 9, 10 and 11 PM, and then destroy the Vatican in a burst of light at midnight. A video feed shows the missing anti-matter vial, which will destroy the Vatican and parts of nearby Rome when the magnetic containment field fails.
The Vatican summons Drs. Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and Vittoria Vetra from CERN to help them solve the Illuminati's threat, save the four preferratti, and replace the vial vial's batteries. Langdon listens to the Illuminati message and deduces that the four cardinals will die at the four alters of the Path of Illumination. However, no one knows where these alters are located. Vetra demands the Swiss Guard fly Father Silvano's diaries from Switzerland. They hope he wrote down the name of whomever he discussed the CERN experiment. Langdon demands access to the Vatican Library (something he has requested 10 times already) to see the original copy of Galileo's banned book. Using the clue from this book, Langdon, Vetra, and Lieutenant Valenti (Victor Alfieri) of the Vatican police race to the first church, only to find the body of the first Cardinal, branded with the word, Earth (in English!). They find the direction of the church with the seond Illuminati alter, but arrive in time to see the next Cardinal die, branded with the word Air. Langdon locates the third church with the third Illuminati altar, but tries to save the third Cardinal from burning to death, while the assassin kills the Vatican policemen. He convinces the Rome police to race to the last church of the Water alter, and manages to save the last Cardinal. However, location of the last Illuminati altar remains in question.
All in all a real enjoyable affair and strictly a theater watch.

Fireflies In The Garden

Fireflies In The Garden is a semi-autobiographical story which centers on the complexities of love and commitment in a family torn apart when faced by an unexpected tragedy.
Great performances by Ryan Reynolds,Emily Watson,Willam Dafoe and the rest of the cast as well.
The past and present state of the movie blends pretty well and the similarities drawn are exceptionally good.
Upbringing of children is very important it leaves an impact on them for the rest of their lives and this movie shows that clearly.
Overall an interesting watch with focus on performances and pent up human emotions.

Director Krishna D.K & Raj Nidimoru's 3rd directorial venture 99 definitely comes as a breath of fresh air more so after the drought of any sensible hindi movie release since the awful multiplex/producer strike has started but how I wish the script was more tighter like that of their earlier movie 'Flavours' which was crisp and humorous and well timed.
Coming back to 99 the movie starts in the year 1999 when having mobile was more of a fad than necessity as incoming call in mobile used to cost money too and the buzz about match fixing in cricket was fast catching up with everyone.
The story revolves around Sachin(Kunal Khemu) & Zaramud(Cyrus Broacha) two conmen who makes duplicate sims for their livelihood and once police got the whiff of their dubious activity they were in a roller coaster ride which lasted til the curtains of the movie drew to an end...
All in all its a film that tells a pretty unique story in a refreshing style that is almost new to Indian cinema. It has plenty of good humor with some very smart ideas that make the entire ride highly entertaining. All the actors(Boman Irani,Soha Ali Khan and Mahesh Manjrekar) delivered a top notch performance so in totality definitely worth a watch.

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl

The brilliant movie is set in Cincinnati at the height of the Great Depression, Kit Kittredge(Abigail Breslin), a resourceful young girl, helps her mother(Julia Ormond) run a boardinghouse after her father(Chris O Donnel) loses his job.
This story centers around Kit Kittredge, who grows up in the struggle years of the Great Depression.10 year old Kit lives in a boarding house her parents own in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kit has a passion for writing, & dreams of having something of hers put in the local paper someday and her grit and determination and hope and attitude of not giving up does shape her dream into reality and that is very very inspirational indeed.
Coming to other aspects of the movie the settings and clothing were accurate.There were other very interesting characters too in the movie like Joan Cusack playing the role of Moblie Librarian and Stanley Tucci playing the role of Magician.
This movie definitely emphasizes on the fact that what one sees is not always not true and the truth sometimes gets hidden with huge layers of lie and deceit and only us human beings could possibly do this.
What I loved about the movie is how people stood for each other in these testing times which is fast vanishing these days..Times are such these days that one finds the so called true and old friends deceiving at times not to forget own siblings as well following this path of cheat and deceit and nothing in life can be more painful than that...
The movie definitely is full of hope and teaches a many useful lessons of life like counting on the blessings we have and hoping for the best even in the toughest of times..
A definite must watch for all ages..
